Race Trip  - Racing Post Trophy - Doncaster 27/10/12

We will again be running our annual trip next year but under new stewardship  - names and monies to Cleaver in the first instance please along with a deposit . Cost will include coach and breakfast but no evening meal  - breakfast venue to be confirmed / decided after "dining selection" undertaken by Gutbuckets Cleaver and Mooey over the next few months!!!!  Armo may also be in on brekkie search - eventhough he may not go on trip - that is if we can prise him off Marsden Golf Course for  long enough.

League Dinner Friday 20th January 2012

Guest speaker is Geoff Miller England Selector + Comedian is Rudi West - we will need to provide numbers by end of November - let Mooey know asap - Tickets are £30 a head - ridiculously expensive but we will have to go just to voice our appreciation for "Big Mig" and "El Maltesero"!!!!

Coffee Morning 9.30am Saturday 19th November 2011

Please support the above 9.30am onwards - to include book / cake stalls, tombola and a raffle - donations for all of the above would be greatly appreciated.

League Performance Prizes 2011

Congratulations to El Maltesero and Billy "Buckets" Burgin on winning the Championship wicket keeping and 2nd XI catching prizes respectively.

El Maltesero snaffled 25 catches and took 10 stumpings in the League alone. He has now jetted off to Kiwi Land for 3 years to pursue a degree and lake a bit of cricket. He'll be missed not only on the pitch but by Jonny as sales of those little round honeycomb chocs will dwindle.

Miguel Angel Jiminez pouched 13 league outfield catches as well as some behind the sticks when he donned the pads to his hamshanks!! He said he was going to celebrate with a fine cigar and a glass of Rioja in true Andalucian style - eladdy Mig.

Hard luck to Strongbow - who was pipped for the Championship bowling prize by the old looking Javed Iqbal Jnr and his Dibbesque military medium filth.

2/7/11 - Under 17's reach Final after enthralling encounter

Following defeat against the brusson Broad Oakers' in the League the away side arrived full of confidence and expecting to win. The home side were buoyed  by the fact that they should have reached the final last year and after suffering a heavy defeat 2 nights previously.

After losing 2 early wickets, we gradually rebuilt the innings against some tight bowling with some grafting from Boycs and Captain Space Cadet. Boycs reached another majestic 50 and Wally 32, Hyphen chipped in with a valuable 18 to set a respectable total of 131 for 5 off 25 overs.

The Oak were still confident when their reply commenced and batted sensibly, dispatching any  loose stuff at every opportunity. They had reached 83 for none in the 15th over when the impressive Connor Woodruff retired at 52 no. The Oak's wheels then came off as Boycs entered the attack (despite complaining of a bad back) and he and Shara ( allegedly carrying a hamstring injury) mopped up the remaining wickets to witness one of the most monumental co-lapses seen at the WACA in recent years. Space Cadet Wallis finished with 3 -17 and the newly named Geoffery hyphen Fred hyphen Boycott hyphen Trueman impressing with 5 -13 to convincingly collect the Victor Ludorum MOM award.

It was an excellent performance by all the lads aided by some excellent support in the field - ( the Vac excepted!!!).

The away side were naturally disappointed - none more so  than their coach -  who, angered by his teams  dreadful latter batting display - decided to go straight home and leave the lads behind to find their own way home - including his son!!

The final will be on August Bank Holiday Monday (29th) at a neutral venue (possibly the Oak) against Slawit who defeated Golcar.last night.

1/7/11 - Under 15's progress to final

Resuming on 13 for 0 chasing 114 for victory, we reached our target off 16.4 overs, losing no wickets and following 3 retirements. There was some majestic batting from Boycs, Clegster and the Chef who all passed 30 with ease, leaving Surfer Boy Whitworth to crash the winning runs for 6 with plenty of overs to spare.

Earlier - indeed the week previously ( due to rain), we had bowled tremendously to restrict teh away side to 114 for 7 off 25 overs, with some impressive bowling particularly from Alec and the Chef after their openers had blazed 40 without loss off 7.

We understand that our opponents are Golcar, who narrowly beat us in the League by 3 runs after some dubious umpiring decisions in the final over.

The final is next Sunday - 10th July commencing at 2pm and is a 40 over affair. Venue will be announced as soon as we know. Neutral umpires will be presiding thankfully.

Semi Finals for u15s & u17s

Thursday 30th June will see the u15s resume thier cup semi final versus Kirkburton which is delicately poised after rain last week with Meltham just starting thier reply. Good Luck

Friday 1st July will see the u17s semi final at Mean Lane versus Broad Oak, again good luck to all involved.

Meltham Legend Retires (again & definitely for the last time he says)

It is with regret that Meltham Cricket Club announce the final and definitely last retirement of club and league legend Robert 'Pixie' Parker. After sustaining an injury on the opening day of the season when struck on the foot twice at Armitage Bridge, Pixie has decided to call it a day after much thought and struggle to get over the injury.
A popular cricketer both at Meltham and throughout the league, Robert will be sadly missed not only out on the field but within the dressing rooms. After a successful career which has spanned over 30 years Pixie has won just about all there is to win including Sykes Cups, 1st & 2nd Team League titles and MOM in Walker Cup final.
Hopefully Pixie will be remembered for his on the field exploits however I am sure all of you will have a off the field memory of one of the games characters who will be sadly missed playing for Meltham.

Juniors in Joe Lumb

Further proof of the strength of Meltham's junior section this last Sunday as 1st team opening bat Will Fraine and u17s captain Jack Wallis both played for the Joe Lumb team (Huddersfield League u17s representative side). Will opened the batting and scored 2 and Jack bowled 6 overs and took 2 wickets, however he aggrevated the hamstring injury that stopped him bowling on Saturday and now misses the game this weekend.

Sykes Cup Draw

Meltham have been drawn away at premiership neighbours Marsden in the 2nd round of the Sykes Cup to be played at Hemplow on 22nd May. Marsden, who contain many Meltham old boys, are in their second season in the top flight and should be a stern test for Bebbys boys and a good indicator on how the season is going.

Player Subs are now due

All players subs are now due for payment - Juniors £40 for season, Seniors £20 plus £3 per match. Please make an effort to pay your coaches or captains as soon as possible and don't make them chase you.

New 1st team skipper and new signings announced

We are pleased to announce that the new 1st team captain for 2011 will be David 'Run Machine' Bebb and takes over from Steve Lane who has left for Liversedge. Bebby, who is from t'other side of the hills and therefore talks a bit funny, brings with him years of experience of captaincy from Norden and the Lancashire leagues and we wish him the best of luck for 2011.
From the new captains extensive list of contacts we have secured 4 new players from the Lancashire leagues who are all expected to make big impacts during 2011.
They are Jon and Lee Storey who are both medium quick bowlers and low middle order batters, Abdul Hamid an explosive middle order batter and bowling all rounder Hussain Shah.
These players should add quality and depth to the side and replace Will Parker and Usman who have all left the club along with Steve Lane.

In other player news we are still working on the viability of an overseas player after a kiwi target  sustained an injury, but with with limited time and very limited money it remains to be seen as to whether we will be successful in signing one.

Club Caps

We have taken delivery of some more club caps- these are for sale at a mere £5 - anyone wanting one see James Moulson

AGM Tuesday 15th March 2011

The AGM was held at the club. James Moulson will be the new secretary and Club stalwart (and former treasurer) Denis Schofield has agreed to act as temp treasurer. There is still  room for additional people on the committee so if anybody is interested please contact a member of the committee. The accounts were looked at and with income falling it is again imperative that all members aid with fund raising and try to find sponsors or support club events. However it is worth noting that some clubs are spending more on one or two players than we spend in total for the whole year on everything. For more details or to see the minutes please contact the secretary.

Player News

We can confirm that Gok Wan has finally informed the club of his decision to leave Meltham having advised that he agreed to join Liversedge in October 2010. Although we still await the official approach from Liversedge for permission to speak with the player.

Meltham are now on the look out for a new first team skipper.

Talks with other current and prospective players continue.

Winter Nets Dates for 2011

This year the winter nets for U15s, U17s & Senior teams will be held at Newsome High School on Sundays between 3pm & 4pm starting 6th March, everyone welcome.

Fixtures announced for 2011

The senior fixtures for 2011 are out now and available to view in the senior section part of the website.
The 1sts have a tough start with  a tough  game at home to Clayton West followed by a  trip to Almondbury.  A tight division is expected and there doesn't look to be a stand out favourite for promotion this year.
The 2nds start with an away game at Army Bridge before hosting Scholes and the fixtures computer looks to have been fairly kind to Meltham as they have no early cold hole games, Marsden (14/5) is the earliest but with Slawit, Barkisland, Emley and Shepley also in the division extra jumpers maybe required this year.

Cup Draws  For 2011 made

The 1st XI have drawn Hall Bower  away in the 1st round of the Sykes Cup, whilst the newly promoted 2nd team have a difficult home tie against Shepley to look forward to in the Paddock Shield. Ties to be played 1/5/11.

In the Pop n Crisps trophy ( also known as the Oddfellows League Cup ) the 1st team go to Kirkheaton and as the stiffs gained promotion they don't have to enter!!!

Take That 2  Concert now rearranged for Friday 25th March 2011

Due to a double booking we have rearranged this event as we wished to ensure that Take That 2 were able to perform and not one of the other "tribute" bands that are doing the rounds. See events for ticket details.

William Fraine wins Johnny Hunter Rosebowl

Melthams William Fraine has been announced as the winner of the 2nd XIs Johnny Hunter Rosebowl prize in this years league awards. The talented 14 year old has taken the prize for best performance in second team cricket during the 2010 season for his matchwinning unbeaten 121 for Meltham 2nds in the 8 wicket win over Hoylandswaine. This caps a great season for young William who during the year has played for Yorkshire, skippered the u15s to the league title (whilst averaging over 100), played in the league winning u17s, scored a maiden senior ton in the the promoted second team as well as carrying his bat when scoring 65* vs Almondbury in the firsts.

However with a risque comedian and a late finish to presentation evening it remains to be seen as to whether William will be able to attend the League Dinner to collect his prize!!

The Malteser loving 1st Team wicketkeeper batsman has jetted off to Napier for the winter. He will spend 6 months at the Academy, receiving coaching, tuition and playing for the Academy etc. He has also been told to keep an eye out for any promising Kiwis who may be interested in playing over here next summer.

He played his first game on 2/10/10 scoring 15 no ironically against opposition containing our former prolific opening batsmen Leighton Morgan.

Good Luck Luke and enjoy

Golf Day - 7/7/10

This year's event was a huge success and enjoyed by all those who participated.

After a lack of teams for our traditional July date, we decided to take a risk and hold the event in October. After the recent torrential downpours, the sun shone brightly all day and surprisingly for the "Heath" there was little or no breeze to contend with either.

19 teams took part in the 12.30pm shotgun start - Stableford Scoring.

Prizewinners were as follows:

Winners - Jas. Vickerman, Ju. Vickerman, R. Mortimer & T. Heeley.
Runners Up - M. Hirst, A. Wilson, N. Daniel & M. Roberts.
3rd Place - R. Woodings, G. Culverwell, J. Lord & R. Clarke.

Longest Drive - hole 8 - Tyrone
Nearest Pin - hole 17 - M. Hirst

The organisers - Armo and Mooey would like to take this opportunity to thank all the teams for their attendance and continued support of this annual event which, we believe is nearing its 10th anniversary. Many teams have been returning year after year and there are many who can profess to being everpresents - its nice to see so many familiar faces year in and year out and your support is greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks goes the Committee at the Heath for again allowing us to "hack" round their course which was in its usual immaculate condition, the greens were magnificent especially considering the recent poor weather we've had.

The food - a carvery, was excellent and thanks go to Lisa and all the staff.

Thanks to our main sponsors for their donations not just this time but over the past years as well :

R.B Developments Ltd
M & K Building Contractors

and also to  DIRECT GOLF UK for donating the prizes for the longest drive and nearest pin competitions. Also to Mick Pogson for his donation towards raffle prizes.

Those also deserving a special mention are Armo for the majority of the legwork in arranging the raffle ( and for not swearing too much on the course!!!), Boot for organising with Crosland Heath for us to play the course and to Cleaver for selling the raffle tickets in his own "fearsome" style.

We are already in the process of organising next years day and suggest that you keep an eye on
Events in due course.
